A briefing and a signing
The event had two parts. First, Winston D. Wallis, Chief Executive Officer of GIS Power and president of the PMI International group, gave a training session to the Chamber’s board and staff to introduce GIS Power and its history. Then GIS Power signed on as a new member.
For GIS Power, membership brings the company closer to the business community of San Juan del Río and makes its experience in large-scale power generation available to the Chamber’s members.
What was presented
The session reviewed the group’s lineage, building critical-power projects since 1983: ESI began operating in Tampa in 1983, PMI was formed in 2001, GIS Power in 2014 and GTO Energy in 2019. The group has developed 56+ MW of cogeneration in Mexico and more than USD 500 M in critical infrastructure projects.
Group clients since 1983 include BBVA, Telmex, Telefónica, Santander, GTE/Verizon, ICA/Fluor, Lockheed Martin, the U.S. TSA, NASA and Disney. Three reference projects in Mexico were also presented:
- Alestra Green Data Center, Querétaro: the first data center with cogeneration in Mexico, at 4.2 MW.
- Cuadritos Industrial Park, Celaya: Mexico’s first Green and Sustainable Industrial Park, with 4.8 MW of cogeneration.
- Bosque Real, Huixquilucan: the first permit to supply electricity under self-supply to Mexico’s residential and commercial sector, in 2009.
What it means for San Juan del Río
Querétaro is growing in industry and in data centers, and in both, reliable power sits at the center of the investment decision. GIS Power is based in the Jurica Industrial Park in Querétaro and develops generation projects with solar and storage as primary power, and cogeneration where there is thermal demand.
