Contracting models

Your company may not need to invest in the plant at all

GIS Power develops and finances the project through a special purpose vehicle (SPV). You choose how to pay.
01

Power purchase agreement (PPA)

You pay only for the energy you use, at an agreed rate. The SPV owns the plant; GIS Power operates it.

A fit if your demand is stable and you want the asset off your balance sheet.

02

Energy as a service

A monthly fee for capacity, availability and operations, with contractual performance targets.

A fit if what you are paying for is continuity: data centers and critical processes.

03

Build, own, operate, transfer (BOOT)

The SPV builds, operates and collects during the term; at the end, the plant transfers to your company.

A fit if you want long-term ownership with no upfront outlay.

04

Lease, loan or cash

Your company owns the plant from day one and pays in installments or upfront.

A fit if you have the balance sheet and want the full savings.

Contract terms of 48 to 180 months, depending on the model. Compare the models

From one 7.5 MW plant to five plants with 36 MW in ten years

Cumulative capacity of the group’s plants in Mexico, by start-up year.

Takeaway

This is not a one-off project: the group commissioned a new plant every one to three years between 2014 and 2019, and all five are still running.

For an investor, that is a repeated execution track record.

Green Data Center by GIS Power

A data center born with its own clean power

Solar and BESS as primary power, with the grid and gas as backup. Built in phases: it can start with a few MW and grow with the IT load.

  • Solar + BESS primary power, sized to the IT load
  • Bridge power while the grid connection arrives
  • Redundancy and O&M with contractual availability
  • Phased project finance, with no upfront outlay for the operator

Why now

Mexico needs more power, and the framework now lets private capital build it

2.5%

Annual consumption growth

Official planning expects Mexico’s gross electricity consumption to grow 2.5% a year from 2025 to 2039.

SENER, Electricity Sector Development Plan 2025–2040, Official Gazette (DOF), Oct 17, 2025.

8,026 MW

Awarded under mixed schemes with CFE

CFE has already awarded 8,026 MW of solar and wind projects under mixed development schemes, with private capital and at least 54% CFE participation.

CFE, Development Program 2026–2030, Jul 2026; Electricity Sector Law, art. 40.

100%

Deductible in year one

Machinery and equipment that generate power from solar or efficient cogeneration can be fully deducted in the year of the investment, if they operate for at least 5 years.

Income Tax Law (LISR), art. 34, sec. XIII.

Mexico’s electricity demand will grow 41% by 2039

Gross electricity consumption, index 2025 = 100, at the planning scenario’s 2.5% a year.

Takeaway

Growth of 2.5% a year compounds to 41% over 14 years. Generation has to keep pace, and not all of it can wait for the grid.

That is the space for on-site generation under long-term contracts.

SENER, Electricity Sector Development Plan, DOF Oct 17, 2025.

Frequently asked questions

Is my project the right size for you?

Write to us whatever the size. We review each request by its demand, location and stage, and reply with the path that suits it best, including projects that start with a few MW and grow in phases, such as a Green Data Center.

Does my company have to invest in the plant?

Not necessarily. Under a power purchase agreement, energy as a service or a BOOT scheme, the project company makes the investment and your company pays for the energy or the service.

What is an SPV and why is it used?

It is a company created for a single project. It ring-fences the project’s assets, contracts and debt from those of its sponsors, and it is what banks and funds require in order to finance it.

Why solar and BESS as primary power?

Because the sun has no fuel cost and storage delivers that energy when it is needed, including at night. The grid and, where it makes sense, gas or cogeneration serve as backup.
